Inspiring Young Minds Through Science: A Stargazing Initiative
An evening of wonder and discovery unfolded at the entrance statement of Westwind in Lancaster New City as GalingPinas youth volunteers, in partnership with the Cavite Youth Astronomy Society (CYAS), hosted a special stargazing event in celebration of Global Astronomy Month this April.
Bringing science closer to the community, the initiative welcomed families and young residents of Lancaster New City and nearby Kapitbahays to experience the beauty of the night sky through guided telescope viewing and interactive learning sessions. More than just an event, it became a shared moment of curiosity, connection, and inspiration under the stars.
“The activity reflects the heart of GalingPinas—creating opportunities where everyone, especially the youth, can discover, thrive, and share their “galing.” By collaborating with organizations like CYAS, GalingPinas continues to make meaningful experiences more accessible to communities, opening doors for learning beyond the classroom, especially for the youth,” shared GalingPinas volunteer, Luster Lu Añabieza.
At its core, the initiative reinforces GalingPinas’ commitment to engage the youth through diverse platforms—whether in sports, arts, leadership, or science. Events like this stargazing night aim to spark curiosity, ignite new interests, and perhaps even lead young minds toward discovering lifelong passions. “As an astronomy organization, we bring the knowledge in exploring our space. The Lancaster community is very welcoming, very child-friendly. This is aligned with our goal to empower the youth who are our future,” says Cavite Youth Astronomy Society President Luis Alfredo Ordonez.
As the stars lit up the sky, so too did the excitement and imagination of the community—proving that sometimes, all it takes is one night to inspire a universe of possibilities. Lancaster homeowners, like the Quiñones family, took part in this event excitedly: “For the kids, we want them to see and enjoy what they can see in the telescope, and they are very happy,” says Mr. Quiñones.
Activities such as these are regularly done in Profriends communities, where the youth actively leads and encourages more Kapitbahays to take part and enjoy meaningful activities together.
